System Engineer

About the mandate

For a large organisation with an extensive IT environment, you look for the best way to keep back-end and endpoint infrastructure secure, stable and high-performing as a System Engineer. You manage end-user devices such as desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and industrial devices, and you further develop the infrastructure. You analyse existing environments, draw up technical designs and carry out upgrades and expansions. You also support users with complex incidents and advise technical teams, business stakeholders and management. Depending on project needs, you work up to 5 days per week at the office, and if necessary you take part in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Managing, maintaining and optimising the back-end and endpoint infrastructure
• Analysing existing infrastructure and formulating improvement proposals
• Carrying out technical feasibility studies and evaluating hardware and software solutions
• Drawing up technical designs in line with architecture requirements
• Implementing upgrades, changes and expansions of the infrastructure
• Managing software distribution, imaging, deployment and patch management
• Supporting users, resolving complex technical incidents and ensuring continuity, availability and security in line with ITIL processes
• Optimising procedures and processes, maintaining technical documentation, sharing knowledge with colleagues and taking part in an on-call rotation if necessary

Must-haves

• At least 10 years of experience as a System Engineer in comparable enterprise environments, with infrastructures of at least 100,000 endpoints and more than 1,000 software applications
• Bachelor's degree in IT or equivalent through relevant experience, and a Microsoft certification such as MCSA, MCSE or MCSD
• Extensive experience with Microsoft Intune (MDM, MAM, BYOD, Conditional Access, Enterprise Mobility & Security) and Expert in Microsoft SCCM/MECM (task sequences, software distribution, software management); experience with imaging, deployment, virtualisation and endpoint management
• In-depth knowledge of Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and knowledge of additional MDM solutions such as Samsung Knox and KAI
• Expert in Active Directory (domains, forests, trusts, OUs, users, groups, sites) and extensive knowledge of LDAP and Group Policy Objects
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Azure/Entra ID (dynamic and static groups, licence management) and good networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, VLAN, DNS, DHCP)
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint; experience with Windows Defender, Patch My PC and patch management tools; knowledge of security processes, policies, standards and regulations
• Extensive scripting experience with PowerShell and VBScript, experience with ServiceNow and ITIL, and Dutch or French at C2 level and English at C1 level
